How to Choose a Pleasure Product That Fits You
Use purpose, size, controls, materials and care requirements to narrow your options without feeling overwhelmed.
General educational information for adults 18+; not medical advice. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the specific product you own.
The best product is not necessarily the most powerful, expensive or complicated. It is the one that matches your preferences, comfort level and practical needs.
Begin with the type of experience
Think about the primary purpose before comparing features. Are you looking for external stimulation, internal use, massage, hands-free use, solo exploration or something designed to share with a partner? A clear use case makes the rest of the decision easier.
Check the dimensions
Product photos can make scale difficult to judge. Read the listed length, insertable length, width and circumference where applicable. If you are new to a product type, a smaller and simpler option may feel more approachable.
Never assume that “one size fits all.” Comfort is individual.
Compare the controls
Ask yourself how you want to operate the product:
- Simple one-button control or several independent controls
- Steady intensity, patterns or both
- Buttons that are easy to identify without looking
- Remote or app control for distance and partner use
- Rechargeable battery or replaceable batteries
More features are useful only if you will actually enjoy using them.
Review the material information
Choose products with clearly identified materials and complete care instructions. Avoid listings that use vague descriptions without specifying what the product is made from.
Material also affects lubricant compatibility and cleaning. Do not rely on a universal rule. Check the instructions for both the product and the lubricant. When uncertain, a small compatibility test on a non-contact area may help, but manufacturer guidance should come first.
Understand water resistance
“Splash-resistant,” “water-resistant” and “waterproof” can describe different levels of protection. Check whether the manufacturer permits rinsing, shower use or submersion. Keep charging ports and electronic controls dry unless the instructions specifically say otherwise.
Think about care and storage
A product that fits your routine is more likely to be used and cared for correctly. Before buying, consider:
- How the product must be cleaned
- Whether it needs to air-dry
- Whether it should be stored separately
- Where the charger or batteries will be kept
- Whether a storage pouch is included
Read the full listing, not just reviews
Customer reviews can offer perspective, but another person’s preference may not match yours. Give more weight to verified specifications, manufacturer instructions and your own comfort level.
Choosing well is not about finding a universally “best” product. It is about finding a thoughtful match for you.
